Last night.

Me: I'm really tired, I think I'll go to bed early.
Larry: OK.
Me: Good night!
Larry: Good night!
Me: [goes to bed]
Larry: [spends the next three hours in the garage directly below the bedroom playing loud music, drumming, and singing at the top of his lungs]
Me: ...

D-List.

I've been listening to my MP3 player in my car, playing all the songs in alphabetical order so I'll hear everything on there at least once, and can delete any "downer" songs that I don't want to come on when I'm running and need to keep my energy up. So far I'm up to the Gs. But a few days ago I had the best grouping of songs so far:

Down With The Sickness
Dracula From Houston
Drop It Like It's Hot

That made me happy all day.

Cocktail Hour

My father in law has instituted "cocktail hour" every day at 5:00 PM. That's a bit early for me- I mean, what if I still need to drive somewhere that evening? But I do like the idea of having a cocktail in the evening, it just works better for me to wait til 8 or 9. I've decided to change it up and not have the same thing every night- I'm always seeing interesting cocktail recipes on Pinterest or wherever and this is a good way to try them out. I'm starting with simple ones and working my way up. Last night I made a Lemon Drop after seeing them make one on Bar Rescue (a show I've recently found to be oddly addictive)- vodka, lemon juice, and simple syrup shaken with ice and served in a glass with a sugar rim. Tonight I made a White Russian with almond milk and coffee ice cubes. Got a good one? Share it in the comments!

Adventures in Gardening: Sad News.

Yeah, pretty sure they're dead. The one I transplanted into a red pot is for sure, the one in the black pot that I moved still looks exactly the same.

Adventures in Gardening: Color Makes a Difference?

So here's something weird. I planted 4 jalapeno plants in pots and put them on my front porch. The 2 in red pots are healthy and gorgeous:

but the 2 in black pots are dying. I'm guessing the black gets too hot?

I had 1 more red pot so I repotted one of the plants to see if it will recover:

The other one I moved to a spot that doesn't get quite as much direct sun:

I will either post updated pictures next week or report that they died, whichever is applicable.

Becca Bites the Bullet: Sonic Jalapeno Chocolate Malt

It's that time of year again: half price shakes after 8 at Sonic. Yay! I decided to branch out from my usual order (caramel hot fudge malt) and try a few new flavors. Salted caramel is amazingly good- a new favorite! Last night I tried one I'd been curious about for a while: jalapeno chocolate. Sounds good in theory- sweet with a little kick? Hell yeah! Count me in! But the reality is not so great. The first sip, I tasted nothing but chocolate malt. A few more sips in, I convinced myself that I could taste a little jalapeno, but I think I was mostly imagining it. And then: a chunk. Oh. There it is. Turns out the jalapeno chocolate malt is literally a chocolate malt with some jalapeno slices mixed in. Yeah- the pickled jalapeno slices like they put on nachos. Sorry, but it just doesn't work. I think it would have been really good if it had been blended with, say, some chipotle powder instead; it might have even worked to blend in some of the jalapeno "juice" instead of the slices.

TL;DR: Chocolate malt=good. Chocolate malt with chunks of pickled jalapeno=not good. Sorry Sonic, this one's an "Ick!"

Sorry no pictures, I didn't think of blogging it til afterward. And I'm not going to go buy another one just to take pictures! Really, it just looked like a regular chocolate malt til I got to the bottom, where there was a handful of chocolate malt-covered jalapeno slices.

Any other weird-sounding fast food items you've been too chicken to try? Let me know in the comments and I'll go try it and post a review!

Oh hey.

Look! It's this blog I haven't used in forever!
